Beginner: roughly 2.0–2.5
You are learning rules, basic positioning, and keeping the ball in play. Look for beginner clinics, novice ladders, or casual community-centre drop-ins.
Low intermediate: roughly 3.0–3.5
You can sustain rallies, understand the kitchen, and place shots with some control. This is where many regular rec players sit.
Intermediate to advanced: roughly 4.0+
You are intentionally shaping points, handling pace, and moving well as a team. Competitive ladders, round robins, or club sessions may be better fits.
How to self-rate properly
Do not rate yourself by one great game. Rate yourself by your average consistency, your serve and return quality, your comfort at the kitchen, and whether you can play cooperatively with others at that level.
