Start with the right court
Look for beginner-friendly sessions, indoor drop-ins, or community-centre open play blocks. PickleFinder city pages are the easiest place to start because you can filter for indoor courts, open play, and skill level fit.
What to bring to your first session
Bring court shoes, water, and a paddle if you have one. If you do not own a paddle yet, many facilities offer rentals or loaners. Wear athletic clothing you can move in and avoid running shoes with soft, rounded soles if possible.
How open play usually works
At most Ontario facilities, open play means you arrive during the posted block, place your paddle in the queue, and rotate in with other players. You usually do not need to bring a partner. Read the posted rules at the venue because each club handles rotations a little differently.
Best first-step pages on PickleFinder
Use the Ontario hub to browse by city, then open a city page and check whether the court is indoor or outdoor, free or paid, and whether open play is available. If you are nervous about level, read the skill-level guide next.
